Forest towns like Pemberton are the perfect places to think about enjoying delicious local marron and fresh trout.
Located on the edge of the Warren National Park the Old Vasse Trout and Marron Farm is a must-visit for keen anglers because of its trout-filled lake. Operating with a ‘catch and keep’ mindset, the lake caters for beginners to more experienced fishers.
Once you’ve reeled a few in, there are plenty of shady spots across the picturesque property where you can unwind.
You can pay a small fee to casually fish for a few hours (you can even hire a rod if you’ve left yours behind), and you’ll need to pay per kilogram of fish you catch to take home. If you’d rather have a more bespoke fly-fishing experience, enquire about their half-day lessons.
Pemberton now also has an annual trout festival held every November so put this on your calendar as a date to return to this beautiful little town.
If you’re not into fishing for your own catch, you can contact Forest Fresh Marron on Pump Hill Rd to pick up freshly caught marron to take home. It’s seasonal of course so call ahead 0436 487 188 or via Facebook
One of the most iconic tourist experiences in Pemberton is a ride through the tall timbers with the Pemberton Tramway Company. Settle into one of the cute little red trams and all aboard the rail line for a short trip through beautiful forests, over bridges and stopping at the stunning Cascades where you can hop out and take a leisurely stroll. The driver will keep you informed with interesting facts and funny tales to make the trip even more enjoyable.
